We moved 9 times in 10 years, leaving most of our belongings in storage for the last 5 of the exodus. One erev Chanukah, as we looked around our Brooklyn sublet to see if we could find something to pinch hit as a menorah, Josh remembered that in the past, under adverse conditions, Jews carved menorahs from potatoes. But we were not living under adverse conditions; we were living two blocks from the Park Slope Food Coop. So we went and bought a block of cheese, and the menorah project was born.
